Michael Vogt ends the bobsleigh season with 6th place in the four-man bobsleigh race at the World Championships in Lake Placid.
The athlete from Aargau made up two places on the second day, but missed the podium by a clear 1.26 seconds.
Due to illness and injuries in Vogt's team, the race was not under a good star. However, with a place in the top six, Vogt and his teammates Gregory Jones, Dominik Hufschmid and Amadou Ndiaye put in a solid performance and clearly represented the best Swiss bobsleigh. Timo Rohner (with Dominik Schläpfer, Tim Annen and Mathieu Hersperger) finished in 10th place and Cédric Follador (with Nicola Mariani, Omar Vögele and Quentin Juillard) came 14th.
Gold went to two-time double Olympic champion Francesco Friedrich, who won by 0.28 seconds over his German compatriot Johannes Lochner after three runs to claim his 16th World Championship gold overall. Third place went to Great Britain's Brad Hall. He lost 0.48 seconds to Friedrich.
The second run on Friday had been canceled due to the channel no longer being completely covered in ice. The jury came to this decision after Lochner damaged his runners while skiing over concrete. The Germans successfully lodged a protest against the initial decision to allow Lochner to start again.
