Shortly before the US election, election officials and state officials have promised a secure and compliant vote. "Americans can have confidence that the election is secure and the results will be counted correctly," two associations of election supervisors assured in a joint statement. This could take time and may require a recount in close races. However, this is the normal procedure.

After the 2020 election, Republican Donald Trump had fueled false allegations of voter fraud for days while the count dragged on in several states. On election night, the then president declared himself the winner - and called for a halt to the vote count when he was temporarily ahead of his Democratic challenger Joe Biden.

The associations emphasized: "The election workers will enable Americans to participate safely and securely in tomorrow's election". They had spent "a great deal of time, energy and resources to protect American elections".

At the same time, they are preparing the public for the possibility of minor problems in the process: Individual polling stations could open late and there could be queues. "These are inevitable challenges that will occur on Election Day, but election officials have contingency plans for these and other scenarios," the associations said.
