Three babies in the embattled Gaza Strip have died of hypothermia, according to a media report. The Palestinian news agency Wafa reported that they were three newborns aged between four and 21 days.

Aid organizations had warned of the precarious living conditions of internally displaced persons in the Gaza Strip in the colder winter months and an increase in illnesses among children.

According to UN figures, almost one million people in the Gaza Strip have to spend the winter months without adequate shelter. Due to fighting and Israeli attacks in the coastal strip, a large proportion of the approximately two million inhabitants of the Gaza Strip have had to flee their homes, often several times. In view of the devastating destruction, many of them are housed in tent camps. Recently, temperatures in the city of Gaza were sometimes below ten degrees at night.

The German ambassador to Israel, Steffen Seibert, wrote on Platform X: "If reports of three babies freezing to death in Gaza do not move us, then we do not understand the birth in a manger in Bethlehem or the light of Hanukkah. They should move us to demand an end to the war and Hamas terror, winter supplies for Gaza residents and a full release of the hostages."

Israel has been fighting against the terrorist organization in the Gaza Strip since the unprecedented Hamas massacre on 7 October 2023. According to Palestinian figures, more than 45,300 people have been killed since then.
