HC Davos starts the quarter-final series against EV Zug with a break. The Grisons win 2:1.
Zug had passed HCD in the last round of qualifying, but now squandered home-ice advantage at the first opportunity. The reason for the defeat were two hair-raising mistakes by Fredrik Olofsson and Livio Stadler. The former misplaced the puck in the 24th minute, whereupon 21-year-old Davos fourth-line forward Julian Parrée scored to make it 1-0. In the 55th minute, Stadler unintentionally made a bad pass to Filip Zadina; the Czech didn't need to be asked twice and scored the winner from close range.
The visitors made it 2:1 just 45 seconds after Colin Lindemann had equalized. The 19-year-old scored for the first time in only his third game in Switzerland's top league. Lindemann was called into action because Zug were missing six regular players - defenders Lukas Bengtsson, Tobias Geisser and Dominik Schlumpf as well as forwards Jan Kovar, Fabrice Herzog and Mike Künzle.
Nevertheless, the Central Swiss team had enough chances to win the game - the shot ratio was 34:26 in their favor. Gregory Hofmann missed the last chance a few seconds before the final buzzer. In addition, the power play did not work. The EVZ was able to play almost eight minutes in overtime, but couldn't score anything. As a result, Davos got a lucky break overall.
