A semi-final duel between two Swiss clubs in the Champions Hockey League seems realistic.
In the quarter-final first leg at Eisbären Berlin, the ZSC Lions managed to turn around a 3-0 deficit to win 4-3.
Things looked bad for the ZSC Lions for a long time in the summit meeting between the German and Swiss champions. The Eisbären Berlin were more efficient than the Zurich Lions. Zachary Boychuk, Gabriel Fontaine and Lean Bergmann put the home team 3:0 ahead by the 24th minute.
However, Derek Grant and Sven Andrighetto reduced the deficit to 2:3 within 176 seconds at the midway point, with Denis Malgin involved in both Zurich goals. In the final period, a deflected long-range shot from Dean Kukan found its way into the net to equalize. Jesper Frödén decided the game for the ZSC Lions four minutes before the end. Juho Lammikko assisted on the ZSC Lions' last two goals.
The quarterfinal second legs will take place on Tuesday, December 17. If the two Swiss clubs remaining in the competition qualify for the semi-finals, they will meet there. Servette's starting position against Bremerhaven looks extremely promising after Tuesday's 4-0 win. And the ZSC Lions also have an advantage thanks to the turnaround in Berlin.
