The ZSC Lions followed up their 4:2 away win against the German team Straubing Tigers in the first leg of the round of 16 with a 7:1 victory in front of their home crowd. Although the Zurich team had to concede the equalizer by Philip Samuelsson 45 seconds before the end of the first period, they responded in the middle third with three goals within 3:16 minutes. First Denis Malgin put the Lions back in front (29th), then Yannick Weber and defenseman Patrick Geering (an own goal) scored within 47 seconds in the 32nd minute to make it 4-1. In the final period, ZSC set off on a gala run.

Sven Andrighetto, who had scored twice in the first leg, contributed a goal and three assists to the clear victory. After making it 2:1, Malgin also scored the 7:1 (57.). In the quarter-finals, ZSC will once again face a German team, namely the Eisbären Berlin. The DEL leaders defeated the Sheffield Steelers by a total score of 9:5.

Fribourg-Gottéron squanders lead

Fribourg-Gottéron had to settle for a 3-3 draw at home after losing 1-0 at Swedish representative Växjö Lakers despite 30-17 shots on goal. The hosts squandered a 1:0 (4th) and 3:2 (50th) lead. The goals from 1:2 (26.) to 3:2 were scored by Jacob de la Rose (49.) and Marcus Sörensen in the same power play within 56 seconds - in the Champions Hockey League the penalized player is not allowed to return from the ice after conceding a goal. However, the 3:2 only lasted 71 seconds, before Felix Robert scored to equalize again for the 6th-placed team in the Swedish top league. Sandro Schmid had already made it 1-0 for Fribourg in the 4th minute.

Another Swiss representative will qualify for the quarter-finals on Wednesday. Defending champions Genève-Servette won the first leg 5-0 in Lausanne.
