EV Zug has found a successor for Dan Tangnes. Assistant Michael Liniger will become the new head coach next season.
Liniger, who has been an assistant at EVZ since 2023, signed a contract until 2027. For the 45-year-old, the position of head coach in the National League is a first. However, the Emmental native has already gained experience in this position one league lower with the GCK Lions. "I'm very happy to accept this challenge - all the more so because it will be with EVZ," Liniger is quoted as saying in the club's press release.
Liniger, who played over 700 NLA games for Langnau, Ambri and Kloten during his active career, was most recently a member of the coaching staff of the Swiss national team and celebrated winning the World Championship silver medal in May. As Zug's head coach, however, he will no longer be in charge of the national team.
In November, current coach Dan Tangnes asked the club to terminate his contract, which runs until 2026, early for family reasons. The Norwegian, who joined Zug in 2018 and won the 2021 and 2022 championship titles with them, recently signed a contract with Norwegian club Rögle BK starting next season.
