On the US holiday on which Donald Trump returned to the White House as president, three Swiss players are in action in the NHL. All three lost with their teams.
Philip Kurashev fared the best. The 25-year-old Chicago Blackhawks forward scored the 1-0 goal against the Carolina Hurricanes and added the assist for the 3-2 lead 19 seconds before the second intermission. For the first time this season and for the first time since March 31, 2024 (1 goal and 1 assist against Philadelphia), Kurashev scored two points in one game. That brings Kurashev's points total to seven after 47 games (15 of which he was in the stands).
Chicago lost the game against Carolina 3:4 after overtime.
Nino Niederreiter also scored a goal for the Winnipeg Jets in their 5-2 away defeat in Salt Lake City against Utah. Kevin Fiala came away empty-handed in his Los Angeles Kings' 5-1 home defeat against the Pittsburgh Penguins.
