Can this really be happening without the knowledge of our government? I don't think so," Trump wrote on the Truth Social platform, which he co-founded. "Let the public know, and let them know now. Otherwise they will shoot it down!" he demanded.
There have been reports and discussions about possible drones in the skies of the US East Coast for days. "We know that New Yorkers have spotted drones in the air this week and we are investigating," said New York Governor Kathy Hochul. "At this time, there is no evidence that these drones pose a threat to public safety or national security."
According to media reports, the mysterious phenomenon began in November over the neighboring state of New Jersey, when an unmanned flying object was spotted near a military facility. Subsequently, more and more cases became known. Videos of the mysterious bright lights in the sky are spreading rapidly on social media and causing heated speculation. Theories online range from espionage and secret military exercises to extraterrestrial life.
Government tries to appease
Among many supposed false sightings, however, there have been a number of cases in which people claim to have seen actual drones the size of cars. Former Maryland Governor Larry Hogan also wrote on Platform X that he had seen (and filmed) dozens of large drones in the sky above his residence in Davidsonville, Maryland. The authorities should do more to clear up the matter.
The administration of Joe Biden, who is still president, is concerned, but also emphasized that there is no evidence so far that foreign powers are involved in the incidents or that the national security of the United States is at risk. The cases have not yet been confirmed by the federal authorities.
Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas made a special appearance on CNN to reassure. "We know of no threats or nefarious activities," he said. It often happens "that people who think they see drones actually see small planes". Young people could also buy a drone and take to the skies.
