The new president of the industry association Gastrosuisse, Beat Imhof, wants to resume the blocked negotiations on the collective labor agreement next year. "There is nothing to be gained from blockades," said Imhof in an interview with Tamedia on Saturday.

For Imhof, there is no other way than to sit down at the negotiating table with the unions again as soon as possible, said the President of the Hotel and Restaurant Association in the interview.

"I don't mean that we should accept every one of their demands without reflection," he said. The collective labor agreement ensures stability in the industry. "If we don't negotiate anything, we can't improve anything either," said Imhof. The current situation is bad for the industry's image. Gastrosuisse wants to improve this, as emerged from the interview.

Hotelleriesuisse wants renewal

The contractual partners of the National Collective Labor Agreement (L-GAV) also include Hotelleriesuisse, the association of the accommodation industry. It wants to renegotiate the L-GAV "in order to offer employees additional attractiveness", said Hotelleriesuisse President Martin von Moos in an interview with Tamedia in January. However, no progress was being made, said von Moos and criticized Gastrosuisse for not wanting to enter into negotiations.

Disagreement with trade unions

Around five years ago, Gastrosuisse decided to suspend negotiations for a new national collective labor agreement (L-GAV). The former president of the gastronomy association, Casimir Platzer, said in an interview with the SonntagsZeitung newspaper in January of this year that the talks would be suspended "until the trade unions stop overriding important points of the CLA with legal provisions".

The reason for the blockade was that signatures for a minimum wage were collected in two cantons and the Unia and Syna unions were involved in the collection of signatures. Stefan Unternährer, who led the negotiations on behalf of the employee organizations, told Hotellerie Gastronomie Zeitung in 2019. Even then, he called on Gastrosuisse to return to the negotiating table.
