The World Band Festival opened in Lucerne on Saturday. The wind music event is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year.

The Besson Swiss Open Contest, in which top Swiss brass bands compete, kicked off on Saturday morning at the KKL. A gala with the Black Dyke Band is scheduled for the evening at the KKL.

According to the organizers, they are extending the festival for the anniversary. The 2024 edition will last nine days and a total of 15 concerts will be played at six venues. There will also be events in the Jesuit Church, in the Schüür and on the "Diamant" ship. However, the KKL is once again the center of the festival this year.

The program has also been expanded for the anniversary edition. In addition to brass, the styles represented include classical, swing, folk, pop and bagpipe music.
