A truck completely burnt out on the A1 highway near Niederlenz AG on Friday. The driver was able to turn the vehicle on its side in time, where it subsequently burned out. No one was injured.

The unladen truck was traveling on the A1 towards Bern when other road users noticed that it was smoking at around 6.30 p.m., as reported by the Aargau cantonal police on Saturday.

The driver then stopped on the emergency lane near the Lenzburg junction. Flames were already leaping out of the engine compartment, which quickly engulfed the entire cabin and the load compartment, as the cantonal police wrote. Within minutes, the entire truck was ablaze. The fire department was subsequently able to extinguish the fire quickly.

All that remained of the vehicle was a charred wreck and the heat caused considerable damage to the road surface, according to the statement. The cantonal police closed the right-hand lane for the extinguishing work. The impact on the flow of traffic was nevertheless minimal. As far as the cause of the fire was concerned, a technical process was in the foreground. The Aargau cantonal police are investigating the cause.
