In future, anyone buying or building a house will have longer to report construction defects. The councils have largely agreed on a revision of the law on sales contracts and contracts for work and services. On Thursday, the National Council followed the path of the Federal Council and the Council of States.

Following divergent wishes in the consultation process, the government submitted a "compromise proposal capable of winning a majority", as it wrote in October 2022. The Federal Council wants to extend the deadline for complaints. It now envisages a deadline of sixty days for contracts for work and real estate purchase contracts.

The Council of States confirmed this proposal in principle during the summer session. In contrast to its first deliberation and contrary to the majority opinion of its Legal Affairs Committee (RK-N), the National Council is now also in agreement.

This means that only minor differences remain between the Councils. For example, the National Council stipulated in the law that the agreement of shorter deadlines should be invalid. The Council of States still has to confirm this.
