On Tuesday evening, the Ticino cantonal parliament approved a restriction on the licensing of Spitex organizations. The Ticino government wants to curb the growth in healthcare costs with this amendment to the law.

The Ticino Grand Council approved the amendment to the law by 52 votes in favor, 13 against and nine abstentions. The adoption was preceded by only a brief debate.

The background to the measure is an amendment to the Federal Health Insurance Act (KVG). The new Article 55b, which came into force on 1 July, allows the cantons to introduce a moratorium on the granting of new operating licenses to Spitex organizations.
