  • Swico calls for an AI policy in Switzerland without a special AI law, based on existing rules.
  • The aim is to establish Switzerland as a leading innovation location and global AI hub with strong access to international markets.
  • Increased cooperation between universities, research and industry as well as increased investment in AI research and development are called for.

Swico is calling for Switzerland to do without a pure AI technology law. Instead, it should be guided by proven national and international principles and best practices and pursue an opportunity-oriented approach.

Innovation first, then regulation

"In view of the Federal Council's ongoing evaluations on the possible regulation of AI in Switzerland, we are taking a clear stance. We are presenting specific demands in order to secure the potential that AI offers our country," Simon Ruesch continues. "Our aim is to optimally prepare Switzerland for the challenges and opportunities of the AI era." The primary aim is to apply existing laws or make selective, principle-based adjustments where necessary. "This creates legal certainty, strengthens innovative power and access to international markets," adds Simon Ruesch. A pragmatic, opportunity-oriented approach to AI - also in terms of regulation - will help Switzerland to continue to play a leading role in innovation in the future and become an important hub for the global AI economy. Swico is calling for Switzerland to take on an active and formative pioneering role and become a technology leader.

"Our goal is to prepare Switzerland optimally for the challenges and opportunities of the AI era," explains Simon Ruesch, Head of Legal & Public Affairs at Swico.

Switzerland as a pioneer in AI development

Switzerland is excellently positioned to play a leading role in the AI era. Thanks to its renowned universities, a dual education system that produces a highly qualified workforce, as well as globally active large companies and innovative SMEs, it offers ideal conditions for the use and further development of AI. Switzerland's economic structure is designed in such a way that it can benefit directly and sustainably from the advantages of AI. This offers Switzerland the opportunity to develop into a global AI hub.

AI as a locational advantage for the Swiss economy

According to Swico, Switzerland is best positioned in the world to benefit directly and sustainably from AI. A wide range of industries and sectors such as pharmaceuticals, life sciences, finance and telecommunications can benefit significantly from AI. This initial advantage must not be squandered and must be actively exploited. Swico is calling for increased collaboration between universities, research and industry. Investment in AI research and development must be increased and barriers to innovation removed. In addition, the general public should be given access to digital and, in particular, AI knowledge through easily accessible and attractive offerings that are continuously developed. In this way, society will be optimally prepared for the digital future with AI.
