The Danish brewery Carlsberg, with brands such as Holsten and Lübzer, is buying the British soft drinks manufacturer Britvic. With the takeover, the world's third-largest brewery wants to broaden its positioning and add soft drinks to its range.

As the company announced on Monday, Carlsberg is paying 3.3 billion pounds for Britvic. Just over two weeks ago, the British had rejected an offer of 3.1 billion pounds, arguing that this would undervalue the company.

Britvic mainly produces juices, lemonades and syrups and its product range includes the Robinsons and Tango brands. The manufacturer also has a cooperation agreement with the US manufacturer Pepsico for the UK and Ireland and sells brands such as Pepsi, 7Up and Lipton Ice Tea in these markets.

The takeover of Britvic will also strengthen Carlsberg's close relationship with Pepsico, the Danish company announced. Ultimately, the aim is to remain competitive in a consolidating market.

Britvic also presented its business figures on Monday: According to these, the company was able to increase its turnover by 6.3 percent to over 500 million pounds in the quarter ending June - and the important summer season is just getting underway.
