According to consistent reports from military observers, Russian troops have captured large parts of the eastern Ukrainian town of Kurakhove. The Ukrainian military blog DeepState marked the eastern part as Russian-occupied.

The Russian military blog Rybar reported fighting in the center of the town, which had around 18,000 inhabitants before the war. According to Ukrainian authorities, there were still around 650 civilians in Kurakhove at the end of November, despite the heavy destruction.

Russian push force advanced into the center

The Ukrainian General Staff in Kiev reported that there had been 48 Russian assaults in Kurakhove and surrounding villages on Sunday alone.

The fall of the city had accelerated last week when a Russian assault force was able to advance almost unhindered into the center and establish itself. Ukrainian military personnel on the ground are complaining about a lack of soldiers for defense.

The towns of Chassiv Yar and Torezk are also said to have already been largely captured by Russian troops. Russian troops have been advancing in the eastern Ukrainian industrial and mining region of Donbass for months.

According to observers, they are currently accepting heavy losses in order to occupy larger Ukrainian territories in the weeks before President-elect Donald Trump takes office in the USA.
