The Israeli army has declared another hostage in the hands of the Islamist Hamas in the Gaza Strip dead. The soldier, who was born in New York and was 21 years old at the time of his abduction, was killed during the Hamas terror attack on October 7, 2023, and his body has been held in the Gaza Strip ever since.

The Forum of Hostage Families announced that the tank commander had been kidnapped with other comrades. When asked, an Israeli army spokesman said he could not say on what basis the young man had now been declared dead.

On October 7 last year, members of Hamas and other extremist groups killed around 1,200 people in Israel and abducted more than 250 others. After more than a year of war, many of the 100 or so remaining hostages are probably no longer alive. Among them are several who have German or US citizenship as well as Israeli citizenship.
