US President-elect Donald Trump has criticized the pardon of the president's son Hunter Biden pushed through by incumbent Joe Biden, calling it an "abuse and failure of justice".

At the same time, he drew parallels on his online platform Truth Social to the storming of the Capitol by Trump supporters on January 6, 2021, after which many of his followers were sentenced to prison. She referred to Trump as "hostages".

"Does the pardon granted to Joe Hunter include the January 6 hostages (literally, "J-6 hostages") who have now been in prison for years? What an abuse and failure of justice," wrote the former and future president.

Following his election victory on November 5, Trump, who governed the USA from 2017 to 2021, will take office on January 20.

Penalty announcement was expected shortly

Contrary to previous statements, the outgoing US president pardoned his son Hunter (54) in the penultimate month of his term in office. In a statement, it was said that his son had been treated "unfairly" by the justice system.

The latter had pleaded guilty in a second trial for various tax offenses following a conviction for weapons violations. The sentences in both cases were to be announced in December.

Biden won the 2020 presidential election against the then incumbent Trump. The latter never acknowledged his defeat. On January 6, 2021, Congress convened to formally confirm Biden's victory.

Trump had previously incited his supporters in a speech by claiming that his election victory had been stolen from him through massive fraud. Five people died as a result of the riots.

It is expected that Trump will pardon most of his convicted supporters once he takes office. Trump won the presidential election four weeks ago against Biden's Vice President Kamala Harris.
