The Iranian Revolutionary Guards (IRGC) have arrested twelve people for allegedly spying for the Israeli foreign intelligence service Mossad. They had tried to gather secret information in six provinces of the country and pass it on to the Mossad, the IRGC said. Details on the identity of the alleged agents were not disclosed. It also remained unclear what secret information they allegedly wanted to collect and pass on.

Those arrested could face the death penalty if convicted. In March, an alleged Mossad agent was executed in a similar case. He had been accused of planning an attack on a Ministry of Defense facility.
