The evacuation of Brienz GR has been completed. This was announced by the municipality of Albula on Sunday afternoon. All 91 residents have left the mountain village along with their pets and livestock.

This means that Brienz GR is now in phase red. This means that the village and the endangered area around it may no longer be entered until further notice.

At 1 p.m., officials from the municipality, the cantonal military and civil defense office, the police and the fire department walked through the entire village once again and found that no one was still on site, according to the municipality. The inspection went smoothly, reported a journalist from Keystone-SDA on site.

In order to enforce the ban on trespassing and ensure security in the village, the site will be monitored electronically with immediate effect, as the local authority also announced. However, Brienz GR is not a worthwhile target for thieves anyway: residents are likely to have taken anything of great value with them.
