The projectile was intercepted, the army announced. There were initially no reports of casualties or damage. There was also initially no confirmation of the attack by the Houthi militia. In previous attacks, this usually only came hours later.
The pro-Iranian Huthi militia has been firing at Israel for months. It claims to be supporting the Islamist Hamas, which is fighting against the Israeli army and triggered the Gaza war with its terrorist attack on Israel more than 15 months ago. In return, Israel and its Western allies have repeatedly bombed targets in Yemen.
A ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, initially set to last six weeks, is due to take effect on Sunday. During this time, 33 Israeli hostages are to be exchanged for more than 700 prisoners held by Israel.
