At least three people have been killed in the Ukrainian capital Kiev as a result of a Russian missile attack, according to the military administration. Three others were injured. The authorities corrected the figure this morning, after initially reporting four deaths. The Lukjaniwska subway station near the city center had to be closed due to damage caused by the attack. Unlike previous attacks on Kiev, there was no warning this time: an air alert was only triggered after several explosions. According to official information, Russia used ballistic missiles.

The damaged metro station is located directly next to an arms factory that has already been the target of several Russian missile attacks. According to reports, missile debris also fell in other parts of the city. Pictures on social networks showed damaged and burning cars and flooding due to a burst water pipe right next to the metro station. In parts of the metropolis with three million inhabitants, the water supply failed, at least for a short time.
Russian ministry speaks of retaliatory strike
The Russian Ministry of Defense announced that a production facility for long-range Neptune missiles had been destroyed with high-precision strikes. There was no confirmation of this from the Ukrainian side. The ministry in Moscow stated that it was in retaliation after Ukraine had previously fired at the Russian region of Belgorod with US ATACMS missiles.
According to Ukrainian air defenses, two out of four ballistic missiles were shot down. It was not initially clear whether military targets were actually hit. The information provided by the warring parties cannot be independently verified.
Also casualties in Zaporizhia
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Selensky expressed his condolences to the families of the victims in Kiev. Debris from rockets fired had fallen in the center of Kiev. He spoke on the platform of three confirmed dead and three injured. Residential buildings, stores and cafés as well as other civilian infrastructure were also damaged.
Ten people were injured in a Russian attack on the southern Ukrainian city of Zaporizhia. Houses and stores were damaged. The rescue operation is continuing, said Selenskyj, who also published a video of the damage. At the same time, he once again called for greater international pressure on all those who support Russia's war of aggression, which has been going on for almost three years.
