The Winnipeg Jets, who got off to an excellent start in the NHL championship, have ended their first losing streak of the season.

After four defeats, the team with Nino Niederreiter beat the Buffalo Sabres 3:2 in overtime.

In the duel between two problem children - Buffalo has now lost its fifth game in a row - the Jets equalized each time the hosts scored the opening goal. Niederreiter was just as little involved in these goals as he was in the winning goal in overtime. The Chur native has now gone five games without a goal.

Josi loses with Nashville against the bottom team

The Nashville Predators, who were highly rated at the start of the season, are at a low point. Captain Roman Josi's team lost 3-0 on the road against the Montreal Canadiens, the bottom team in the Eastern Conference. Of the 32 NHL teams, only the Chicago Blackhawks with Philipp Kurashev are in a worse position. After the sixth defeat en suite, the interim result looks bleak: 20 of the 27 games have been lost.

Josi was on the ice for two of the three goals conceded. The 0:1 was a shorthander, the 0:2 was scored in a powerplay and the puck flew into the empty net for the 0:3.

The Tampa Bay Lightning players were in a scoring mood. The San Jose Sharks were immediately dispatched with 8:1 goals. Janis Moser from Biel left the ice with a plus-3 rating and also notched up an assist.
