The Detroit Red Wings are installing Todd McLellan (57) as their new coach over Christmas. McLellan replaces Derek Lalonde, who will be fired after three seasons.
Todd McLellan, for his part, was released by the Los Angeles Kings at the beginning of February. He is considered one of the most successful coaches in the NHL. Only Paul Maurice (891), Lindy Ruff (876), Peter Laviolette (823), John Tortorella (757) and Peter DeBoer (632) won more games in the NHL than McLellan (598).
McLellan previously worked in the Red Wings organization from 2005 to 2008. As an assistant, he won the Stanley Cup with Detroit in 2008.
