Valtteri Bottas remains in Formula 1 in a new role. After three years with Team Sauber, the Finn will return to Mercedes as a reserve driver for the 2025 season, as announced by the racing team.
The 35-year-old Bottas celebrated his greatest successes with the Silver Arrows before moving to Sauber. Between 2017 and 2021, he achieved ten Grand Prix victories and 58 podium finishes. In 2019 and 2020, he finished second in the world championship behind teammate Lewis Hamilton.
After a promising start at Sauber, the last few months have proven to be a major challenge for Bottas. He finished the season just ended without any championship points - a first for him in twelve years of Formula 1.
Nevertheless, Mercedes team boss Toto Wolff is convinced of the Finn's return: "His influence and contribution in the five years he was with us as a regular driver were immense," says the Austrian. "His technical feedback and input were important in achieving these successes and moving the team forward. But not only that, he was also a fantastic colleague and team member."
