Timo Meier shoots the New Jersey Devils to a 3-2 victory over the Seattle Kraken. The Appenzeller scores the winning goal, as does Pius Suter for the Vancouver Canucks.
The 2-2 tie after the second period did not last long at the Prudential Center, where the New Jersey Devils play their home games. Meier finished off the first attack after the second intermission with his ninth goal of the season. The Kraken's defense came under heavy pressure, the breakaway failed and Meier only had to push the puck, which rolled in front of him, over the line. The Herisau native has now reached 20 scoring points and ranks third in the scoring rankings of Swiss mercenaries - behind Nico Hischier (27) and Roman Josi (23).
Pius Suter has really got going. The Zurich native scored twice in the final period of his Vancouver Canucks' 5-2 win over the Columbus Blue Jackets. In the 3-2 win, he finished off a feed from Conor Garland, who had won the disc behind the goal, and the 5-2 goal was an empty-netter.
Suter has scored a total of five goals in the last five games. With 11 goals already after 24 games, he is heading for a personal NHL best. The record from the previous year (16 goals in 80 games) will soon fall if he continues to score at this rate.
