After the women, the Swiss men have also made it through to the semi-finals at the European Curling Championships in Lohja, Finland. There they will face defending champions Scotland on Friday morning (8.00 am).

In the ninth and final game of the Robin Robin, the team led by skip Yannick Schwaller secured the sixth victory needed against Italy to finish the group phase in 4th place at the expense of the Italians, who dropped from 2nd to 6th place.

Schwaller, Benoît Schwarz-Van Berkel, Sven Michel and Pablo Lachat-Couchepin initially fell behind 0:2 against Italy after losing two ends, but then freed themselves with a house of three and turned a 4:4 into a 7:4 in the last three ends.

On Friday morning, the Swiss will face Scotland, who have won the last three European Championships, in the battle for a place in the final. The team led by skip Bruce Mouat was only defeated once in the nine group matches, on Thursday against Sweden 11-7.

The second semi-final will be contested by Norway and Germany. World and Olympic champions Sweden were eliminated.
