The outstanding sprinter Nadine Fähndrich made up five places in the final relay with the best section time, bringing the quartet with Jonas Baumann, Anja Weber and Jason Rüesch onto the podium behind Sweden and Norway, 0.5 seconds ahead of the second Norwegian team.

It was initially the nominally second Swiss relay team that raised hopes of a podium finish. Cyril Fähndrich produced a strong first run and handed over in fourth place behind Finland, Norway and the equally surprising Canadians. In the end, Nadine's brother Cyril Fähndrich, sisters Nadja and Marina Kälin and Valerio Grond finished in a good 7th place.

The mixed relay, in which one man and one woman each skate in the skating and classic techniques, is not an Olympic event, but is to be included in the program in the future. However, some of the major nations spared some of their top male and female skiers.
