The Swiss also perform strongly in the slalom in Wengen, but miss out on the podium. Tanguy Nef, Loïc Meillard and Daniel Yule finish 4th to 6th behind a Norwegian trio.
Atle Lie McGrath, who was already leading after the first run, won ahead of his compatriots Timon Haugan and Henrik Kristoffersen. McGrath showed a strong reaction to his last unsuccessful performances in the slalom. He was eliminated in Madonna di Campiglio and Adelboden.
McGrath won his third World Cup victory after those in the slaloms almost three years ago in Flachau and at the final in Méribel by a margin of 18 hundredths. Kristoffersen, who has already won the slalom in Wengen three times, successfully defended his lead in the discipline rankings.
The triple success in a World Cup slalom is nothing new for the Norwegians. Ole Christian Furuseth, Finn Christian Jagge and Tom Stiansen achieved the same feat almost 27 years ago in Youngpyong in South Korea.
Nef gets closer and closer to the podium
Tanguy Nef improved his best result in the World Cup by another position. He achieved 5th place at the season opener in Levi, Finland, in mid-November. The man from Geneva missed out on his first podium finish at this level by a tiny four hundredths.
Loïc Meillard, who, like McGrath, did not finish in Adelboden, had a lot to make up for after his first run - and he did. The Neuchâtel native made up no less than 19 positions and jumped from 24th to 5th place. In the final standings, he was three hundredths faster than Daniel Yule, who was nevertheless better placed than ever before in this World Cup winter.
