In addition to President Ruth Metzler-Arnold, three of the nine other members of the Swiss Olympic Executive Board are new.
Following the election of Ruth Metzler-Arnold as the new President of Swiss Olympic, nine further members were elected to the Executive Board at the 28th meeting of the Sports Parliament; three of them are joining the Board for the first time.
Of the incumbents, all candidates - Vice President Ruth Wipfli Steinegger (Swiss Tennis), Sergei Aschwanden (Swiss Judo & Ju-Jitsu Federation), Daniel Bareiss (Swiss Floorball), Pascal Jenny (Swiss Handball Federation), Barbara Moosmann (Swiss Aquatics) and Nora Willi (Swiss Volley) - were re-elected in the first round of voting.
Mario Gyr (proposed by the Swiss Rowing Federation), Ophélia Jeanneret (Swiss University Sports) and Kathrin Lehmann (Swiss Ice Hockey Federation) were newly elected to the Executive Board at the Haus des Sports in Ittigen - all also in the first round of voting.
Following this overall renewal election, the Executive Board will consist of six women and four men, thus fulfilling the new gender quota. From January 1, 2025, this will require at least 40% representation of both genders in the top management bodies of national sports federations.
However, Regula Meier (Swiss Alpine Club SAC) - who lost out to Lehmann by 18 votes -, Christian Lohr (PluSport Behindertensport Schweiz) and Norman Gobbi (Swiss Shooting Sport Association) were not elected on Friday.
The 14-member Executive Board also includes the two athlete representatives Jeannine Gmelin and Matthias Kyburz and the two Swiss IOC members Gianni Infantino and Denis Oswald.
The Executive Board is the governing body within Swiss Olympic. It prepares the decisions of the Sports Parliament, ensures their implementation and represents the umbrella organization of Swiss sport externally. It also determines the organizational structure, the areas of work and the medium and long-term planning goals of Swiss Olympic. It also appoints the management team for the Swiss delegations to the Olympic Games.
