The Swiss men's team loses the bronze medal match against Norway at the European Curling Championships in Lohja, Finland. The team around skip Yannick Schwaller was clearly defeated 4:7.
The CC Geneva team thus remains without five European Championship medals since 2015. The chance to win their first gold medal had already been lost in the morning with the defeat against Scotland (8:10 after the extra end).
Despite a strong start - Switzerland stole a stone from the Norwegians in the very first end - Pablo Lachat, Sven Michel, skip Schwaller and Benoît Schwarz-van Berkel were on the defensive for long stretches. In the third end, Norway made a house of three, although Schwarz-van Berkel had the last stone (!). It slipped through the ring without being deflected into the middle as desired.
The Swiss were unable to recover from this gaffe. They were also not precise enough in the following game. This was against Norway, who also showed weaknesses. As a result, bronze was never again within reach for the team from Geneva, who had won the bronze medal game at the 2023 European Championships. Switzerland had already lost 5:10 to skip Magnus Ramsfjell's team in the group phase.
