  • Italian defending champion Jannik Sinner defeats Ben Shelton from the USA in three sets in the semi-finals of the Australian Open and advances to the final.
  • There, the world number 1 will face Alexander Zverev.

Defending champion Jannik Sinner has once again reached the final of the Australian Open and will challenge Alexander Zverev for the title. The Italian tennis star beat US pro Ben Shelton 7:6 (7:2), 6:2, 6:2 to reach a Grand Slam final for the third time.

In his 20th consecutive win on the tour, Sinner did not let an early break to 0:1 and a further break to 5:6 throw him off his stride in the hard-fought first set. After winning the set in a tie-break, Sinner dominated, while Shelton made more mistakes in his second Grand Slam semi-final.

However, Sinner did not seem to be in top physical condition. In the end, the 23-year-old had to have his thighs massaged repeatedly during the breaks. He also tried to keep the rallies short and score quick points. Sinner succeeded in doing so.
