Mikaela Shiffrin leads the World Cup slalom in Gurgl after 30 racers. Wendy Holdener and Camille Rast are in 2nd and 5th place respectively after strong performances.
Shiffrin had no problems at the women's World Cup premiere in Gurgl with bib number 1 and set a time on the snow that none of her competitors could match. The only athlete who was able to keep up with the American was Wendy Holdener. The Swiss skier was even ahead of the top favorite in the upper part of the course, but lost time in the second section and finished just 13 hundredths behind Shiffrin.
All the other racers lost more than half a second on the leader. Camille Rast is the second-best Swiss skier in 5th intermediate place, just under seven tenths behind. The 25-year-old, who finished 5th in the first slalom of the winter in Levi, confirmed her good form and still has her sights set on her first World Cup podium. Mélanie Meillard was also able to confirm her 7th place from Levi. The skier from Neuchâtel is in 9th place after half a run.
Michelle Gisin had a completely botched run. The skier from Engelberg is almost three seconds off the pace and has to worry about qualifying for the second run. The same applies to Nicole Good, who lost half a second more.
