Justine Mettraux suffers a setback in the Vendée Globe round-the-world race. The Geneva skipper's headsail is torn and is now unusable.

On Wednesday morning, Romande raised the alarm about the loss of her headsail. She was able to bring the damaged material on board without discovering any further damage to the boat, but will have to make do with her remaining set of sails.

On Wednesday, the 38-year-old sailor was in 13th intermediate place, 550 miles behind the leader Charlie Dalin, and was sailing slower compared to her direct competitors. Alan Roura is in 26th place and Oliver Heer, the third Swiss at the Vendée Globe, is 35th.

Frenchman Sébastien Simon, third in the overall standings, improved the seven-day old record for the most miles covered in 24 hours by a monohull sailing boat between Tuesday and Wednesday. Yoann Richomme had covered 1021 km last week, Simon has now achieved 1119.75 km.
