Genève-Servette shines in the Champions Hockey League like last year. The defending champions win the quarter-final first leg against the Penguins from Bremerhaven 4:0.

The Genève-Servette Hockey Club cannot be stopped at European level. With the clear home victory against the North German Penguins, the Geneva team has already secured itself a clear option to reach the semi-finals again after last year's triumph. There, a Swiss duel could take place against the ZSC Lions, who play their quarter-final first leg on Wednesday evening.

It was Servette's northern faction in particular that made the difference. In the first half, Sweden's Theodor Lennström (9th) and Finland's Markus Granlund (19th) gave Servette a reassuring lead, and in the 27th minute, veteran Suomi defender Sami Vatanen increased the lead to 3:0 in overtime. In the final period, Alessio Bertaggia made the score 4:0.

Finnish goalie Antti Raanta, who only moved to Lake Geneva during the season, saved an impressive 35 shots for his shutout. The result is somewhat deceptive: last year's DEL finalists, with a budget of only around 5 million euros, sold themselves dearly, but sinned in finishing and did not concede any compelling goals. However, Geneva are now in an excellent position for the second leg in two weeks' time.
