The road race at the World Championships in Zurich will take place on Sunday without Richard Carapaz. The Ecuadorian traveled home due to a family emergency.
The 31-year-old 2021 Olympic champion announced on social media that his daughter had to undergo emergency surgery. The operation went well, but his daughter still needs support. In view of these circumstances, Carapaz does not feel mentally or physically able to take part in the final highlight of the World Cycling Championships.
