At the mass start in Le Grand-Bornand, France, the Swiss athlete finished tenth in the eighth race of the season and finished in the top ten for the second time. The fact that her running performance is getting better and better is the main reason for confidence.

Meanwhile, Germany is delighted to have another biathlon jewel. The 20-year-old Selina Grotian celebrated her first World Cup victory. The woman from near Garmisch-Partenkirchen had won six gold medals at the Junior World Championships in recent winters and is now making a seamless transition into the elite ranks.

For once the older Bö wins

Biathlon. - Before the biathletes went into the short Christmas break, Tarjei Bö gave himself the best present of all. Despite one overall World Cup victory, three Olympic gold medals and six World Championship titles, the 36-year-old Norwegian is usually overshadowed by his outstanding younger brother Johannes Thingnes. In the mass start race in Le Grand-Bornand, France, he celebrated his first World Cup victory in just over a year, his fourteenth overall, despite a mistake with the very last shot. Behind him, the German Danilo Riethmüller finished on the podium for the first time, while Johannes Thingnes Bö came third after three penalties.

The two Swiss athletes who had qualified for the field of the 30 best biathletes were unable to keep up in the pouring rain. Sebastian Stalder finished in 20th place with two misses, Jérémy Finello was fast as usual, but six penalties dropped him back to 22nd place.

Women's ski jumping World Cup in Engelberg canceled

Ski jumping. - Because the weather did not play along, the ski jumpers in Engelberg were unable to compete for World Cup points as planned. Heavy snow and strong winds in places led to the competition being abandoned after 48 of the 55 athletes in the first round. As not all athletes had completed at least one jump, there was no ranking. Swiss women were not in the top 30 at the time.
