HC Fribourg-Gottéron reacts to the unsatisfactory results: Last year's playoff semi-finalist fires coach Pat Emond.
Previous assistant Emond succeeded Christian Dubé this season. The first 31 games in the National League resulted in only 12 wins and a disappointing 11th place. On Friday and Saturday, Fribourg failed to score against Kloten (0:2) and Rapperswil-Jona (0:4).
Lars Leuenberger takes over as coach with immediate effect. The 49-year-old from eastern Switzerland has already celebrated great successes when he has stepped in during a season. He led SC Bern to the championship title in 2016. Most recently, he was coach at Olten in the Swiss League until January, when he was sacked.
Leuenberger has a Fribourg past, having played for Gottéron from 2000 to 2002. It is already clear that the Swede Roger Rönnberg, currently still employed by Frölunda Göteborg, will be at the helm of Fribourg next season.
