At the World Cup in Pokljuka, Slovenian biathlon veteran Jakov Fak celebrates a surprising home victory. The 37-year-old won the 15 km individual race for the first time in almost ten years.

Fak earned the ninth World Cup success of his long career with perfect shooting and a strong skiing performance. The two-time world champion was one of only two athletes to finish all 20 shots in difficult weather conditions and kept Sturla Holm Laegreid from Norway and Martin Ponsiluoma from Sweden, who were slightly better on the cross-country track, at bay.

Johannes Thingnes Böe, the five-time medal winner at the World Championships in Lenzerheide, only finished in 10th place 1:52 minutes behind despite a good shooting performance (1 miss) and had to relinquish the lead in the overall World Cup to his compatriot Laegreid.

The first race of the weekend in Pokljuka was also a disappointment for the Swiss. Niklas Hartweg was the best 30th and was the only one who managed well at the shooting range (2 faults). Josha Burkhalter (50th / 6 faults), Sebastian Stalder (89th / 5 faults) and Arnaud Du Pasquier (90th / 9 faults) finished in the bottom half of the rankings.
