Defending champion Ding Liren manages to draw 6:6 against Dommaraju Gukesh at the World Chess Championship in Singapore.

This means that the duel between the Chinese player and his 18-year-old challenger from India will go the full distance of 14 games, after which a play-off in rapid chess is possible.

Ding prevailed in the twelfth match after losing on Sunday and thus falling behind for the first time. Gukesh buried his face in his hands in bewilderment at the table after the defeat.

7.5 points are needed to win the title. A win earns one point, a draw earns both players 0.5 points each. This means that - after a one-day break - no decision can be made in the 13th game on Wednesday. If there is a draw after 14 games, a game of rapid chess will decide. The new title winner will receive the lion's share of the prize money of 2.5 million dollars (around 2.37 million euros).
