The Swiss ice hockey team started the third and final tournament of the newly created Women's Euro Hockey Tour with a defeat. They were defeated by the USA 2:6.
The game in Tampere was decided in the middle third, when the Americans scored three goals between the 29th and 36th minute to pull away from 1:1 to 4:1. The Swiss goals were scored by Nicole Vallario (to make it 1:1) and Lena Lutz (on the powerplay to make it 6:2).
Unlike previously in Kloten and Södertälje, the tournament in Finland will feature six instead of four nations. With the guests from the USA and Canada, the teams will first duel in two groups of three before the classification games follow at the weekend.
To reach the semi-finals, the Swiss will need a win against tournament hosts Finland on Friday (from 18:00). It would be only the second win for coach Colin Muller's team in the Euro Hockey Tour after the 2:1 n.p. against the Czech Republic at their home tournament at the end of August.
