The Swiss women's ski crossers have two runners up in the final in the first race of the season. Fanny Smith comes second, Talina Gantenbein fourth.
For 32-year-old Smith, it was her 74th individual podium finish in the World Cup. She was only beaten by Marielle Thompson from Canada, who is the same age and now has one more individual World Cup victory than Smith with her 32nd. Gantenbein missed out on her seventh podium finish and remained just behind Germany's Daniela Maier.
The big favorite Sandra Näslund from Sweden surprisingly failed in the quarter-finals after a fall. However, Saskja Lack, who was competing in the same heat, was unable to benefit from this. The 24-year-old finished third in the group of four.
The Swiss men's team only had two athletes at the start because Olympic champion Ryan Regez and Olympic silver medallist Alex Fiva were unable to qualify. In their absence, Tobias Baur reached the small final and won it. In fifth place, he equaled his third-best World Cup result of his career. Marc Bischofberger crashed and had to retire in the round of 16.
