Medal winners Julie Derron and Roman Mityukov carry the Swiss flag into the stadium at the closing ceremony of the Olympic Games in Paris on Sunday evening.

Julie Derron from Zurich was one of the positive surprises in the Swiss team with her silver medal in the triathlon. Roman Mityukov from Geneva ensured that there was another medal in the swimming pool by winning bronze in the 200 m backstroke.

"Julie and Roman represent sports that we always enjoy on the world stage," said Swiss delegation head Ralph Stöckli, explaining his choice. "They both did this with their performances in Paris too."

Derron and Mityukov follow karateka Elena Quirici, who carried the flag into the stadium at the closing ceremony in Tokyo in 2021. At the opening ceremony in Paris, mountain biker Nino Schurter and shooter Nina Christen were given the honor of holding up the Swiss flag at the boat parade on the Seine.
