With Sweden, Spain, Iceland, Slovenia, Qatar and Tunisia (26:25 against Algeria), six more teams qualify for the main round of the World Handball Championship.

Sweden (42:30 against Chile) and Spain (39:20 against Japan) secured their progress, as did Iceland (40:19 against Cuba) and Slovenia (36:24 against Cape Verde) after the second game.

Qatar put Kuwait in their place in the decisive match for third place behind the French and Austrians, who had already qualified (25:22), while Tunisia did the same behind unbeaten defending champions Denmark and Italy with an extremely close 26:25 win over Algeria. Algeria and Kuwait will therefore continue in the less attractive classification round for places 25 to 32 in Croatia.
