Davos cheers in the last minute, Lugano falls even deeper into the vale of tears against Ajoie. These are the facts from Saturday's six National League games.
Andersson's double against his ex-colleagues
The 6500 or so fans in the Davos ice rink were already bracing themselves for overtime. After all, the HCD had let a supposedly reassuring 2-0 lead against the SCB slip away within a minute and a half in the final period. But Calle Andersson was not after overtime that evening and gave the Grisons victory 36 seconds before the siren. It was the former Bern native's second goal of the evening after he had scored the seemingly groundbreaking second HCD goal ten minutes earlier, his first goal of the season. The Bernese then had no answer to his second strike, for obvious reasons.
Ajoie further exacerbates Lugano's crisis
It is a crisis summit that can mobilize the masses in Pruntrut. In any case, almost 5,000 people wanted to see HC Ajoie's clash against Lugano, the proud Ticino club that is playing far below its own expectations this season. After all, with a win, the Jura side could close to within six points of the Luganesi and still have a chance of not finishing the National League qualifiers in last place. Kevin Fey kept this hope alive. The 34-year-old defenseman put Greg Ireland's team ahead for the second time with just over eight minutes remaining, this time decisively, after Philip-Michael Devos had already scored after half-time and Lugano had been able to respond in the person of Matthew Verboon. For HCL, who have stoically stuck with young coach Luca Gianinazzi despite their ongoing slump, it is the fourth defeat de suite, while Ajoie have alternated wins and defeats of late.
Genoni makes ZSC desperate
On Friday, the ZSC Lions had shown that they can still win games under Marco Bayer. But after the 1-0 loss at the SCL Tigers, the successor to Marc Crawford, who resigned for health reasons, suffered another setback. The Swiss champions lost 2-1 at home to EV Zug after Denis Malgin had given Zurich the lead midway through the first period. However, ZSC, who have lost four of their last five games, were unable to respond to goals from Mike Künzle and Leon Muggli for almost two periods. Leonardo Genoni did not allow anything more in the goal of the Central Swiss.
Hofer thwarts Ambri comeback
EHC Biel seems to like the Ticino clubs. After the team from the Seelands managed to secure their first win of the year against Lugano on Tuesday, they were also victorious against Ambri-Piotta. Although the Leventines were able to level the scores at 3:3 right at the start of the third period, Biel, who dominated the game for long stretches, did not give up. Fabio Hofer, who also used to play for the opposing team, beat the strong Gilles Senn in the Ambri goal for the fourth time, handing Luca Cereda's team their second defeat in a row. Biel, meanwhile, should travel to Sunday's away game in Zug with plenty of morale.
Langnau scores, but still loses
The positive for the SCL Tigers from their trip to Kloten: they scored again. But despite the fact that captain Harri Pesonen was able to equalize twice for the Emmentaler after two defeats to zero, the Tigers were ultimately left empty-handed and had to leave the ice as losers for the fourth time in a row. Because Miro Aaltonen beat Stéphane Charlin for the third time ten minutes before the end. This was the Zurich team's reaction to the 2:5 loss against Rapperswil-Jona.
Oldie Sprunger lets Gottéron cheer
Julien Sprunger has long been a club legend in Fribourg. On Saturday, however, the captain not only proved his emotional attachment to Gottéron once again, but also showed that he can still bring something to the team as a 39-year-old. With his tenth goal of the season, he paved the way for Fribourg's first win against Genève-Servette this season, after Teemu Hartikainen had equalized Linden Vey's first Fribourg lead.
