The Track Cycling World Championships will take place in Ballerup near Copenhagen from Wednesday to Sunday. Swiss Cycling has nominated six female and eight male athletes.

While the aim in the mass start disciplines is to achieve the best possible results with established riders, the focus in the team pursuit is on building up new teams with a view to the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles.

For this reason, Jasmin Liechti and Annika Liehner and Luca Bühlmann and Mats Poot, respectively, have also been nominated as athletes who are still at U23 age. The short-term goal is to finish in the top 8 for both genders in Denmark.

The most promising Swiss contender for a top spot is likely to be Alex Vogel, who only just missed out on winning the scratch title at the 2023 World Championships in Glasgow. For Simon Vitzthum, this will be his farewell performance. The 29-year-old from St. Gallen, who is expected to compete in the omnium, will step down after the World Championships and take over the management of the Swiss Cycling Service Course in Grenchen.
