The Nashville Predators start the NHL season as co-favorites, but are still without a point after three defeats.
The team led by captain Roman Josi has yet to put one foot in front of the other in the first week of the championship. The defeats against Dallas (3:4/h) and in Detroit (0:3) were followed by a 3:7 at home against the Seattle Kraken. Nashville was 2-0 down after seven minutes, equalized twice (2-2 and 3-3), but missed the start again in the final period (3-5 after 160 seconds) and conceded four goals in the final period to go from 3-3 to 3-7.
"We're not playing the way we should be playing," said Andrew Brunette, the Predators' coach. Roman Josi, the team's captain, already has to stand up again and explain defeats: "We have to turn things around for ourselves as quickly as possible. But the good thing about the NHL is that you get the next chance every two days."
The Nashville Predators started the new season as transfer winners. After signing superstars Steven Stamkos, Jonathan Marchessault and Brady Skjei for 111.5 million dollars, nobody expected them to start the season with three defeats.
Of the Swiss in the NHL, only Janis Moser (with Tampa Bay) won against the Vancouver Canucks with Pius Suter on Wednesday night. The New Jersey Devils also conceded a 4-2 defeat in Carolina. Philip Kurashev and the Chicago Blackhawks lost 3-1 in Calgary, with Nico Hischier (New Jersey) the only Swiss player to score a goal, his third of the season.
In addition, the National Hockey League (NHL) once again experienced a "goalie goal". Filip Gustavsson, goalkeeper for the Minnesota Wild, became the 15th goalie to score in the NHL - the 4:1 away win for the Wild in St. Louis with a finish into an empty net.
