The 18-year-old challenger Dommaraju Gukesh reaches for the crown of world chess champion. With White, the Indian wins the 11th game against the Chinese player Ding Liren.
Gukesh is now in the lead with 6:5 points. Ding still has three games left to at least restore the tie. In this case, a play-off in rapid chess would be decisive.
But it doesn't look like that at the moment, as the defending champion is faltering. On Sunday, Ding found himself in time trouble in a complicated but, according to computer calculations, balanced position. He made a major mistake with a queen move, which would have led to the loss of a knight. But Ding didn't let it get that far. When he realized his mishap, he resigned immediately.
The game had already got off to a strange start. Gukesh played an opening that Ding was not prepared for. On the fourth move, the Chinese player was already on the defensive, thinking for 38 minutes. After the fifth move, Ding had already used up 63 minutes of thinking time, Gukesh was at 50 seconds.
