Hosts Canada fail again in the quarter-finals of the U20 World Championships. The North Americans lose 3:4 against the Czech Republic.

The Canadians equalized the 1:3 deficit from the first period by the 56th minute, but were unable to capitalize on the momentum after that. Instead, Andrew Gibson was sent to the penalty box for the second time in five minutes. Three seconds before the penalty expired, the Czech Republic's Adam Jecho shot his team into fortune and thus into the World Championship semi-final.

The juniors of the proud ice hockey nation of Canada, record winners with 20 titles, thus failed to reach a World Championship quarter-final for the second time in a row. As in the previous year, the Czechs pulled off the coup - this time in Ottawa, of course. In the semi-finals, the Czech Republic will now face defending champions USA, who easily beat Switzerland 7:2. Finland and Sweden will face each other in the other semi-final.
